Botesdale and Rickinghall: To be strictly correct one should refer to "The Rickinghalls" rather than to "Rickinghall" as there are two, namely Rickinghall Inferior and Rickinghall Superior. Prior to the early 1970's they were served by two Parish Councils. Now there is one Rickinghall Parish Council, serving both Rickinghall Inferior and Rickinghall Superior. The distinction between the two Rickinghalls is now less tangible and more difficult to detect with the passing years.
Botesdale and Rickinghall have grown together geographically and together stretch for about 1 3/4 miles along the old A143, the two villages having been by-passed in 1995. The villages are now linked together in a seamless way and generally, the boundaries between them are difficult to identify. In some places the two parishes occupy opposite sides of the street and there are also a few anomalies such that Botesdale Post Office and The Botesdale Methodist Church are both situated in Rickinghall

Just as Botesdale and Rickinghall have grown together geographically, most village activities are now organised, run and attended by people from both parishes. Typically the two Parish Councils have combined to produce a brochure detailing village walks, there is a thriving Botesdale & Rickinghall Further Education Group and the care and management of the War Memorial, situated in Botesdale is carried out by a joint sub-committee of the Botesdale, Rickinghall and Redgrave Parish Councils. Together with Redgrave, Botesdale and Rickinghall are jointly twinned with Tinteniac and also contribute to a common Parish Magazine
